Calling all aspiring rock stars! Rawk Camp offers young people with big dreams the chance to pursue their love of music.
Rawk camp is a week-long program with Yukon-based rockers Speed Control. Participants will have the opportunity to finesse their vocals and try out the guitar, drums, bass, and keyboard in group lessons. The goal is to have fun performing with other musicians - no experience required!
Following the camp, new musicians will perform their latest hits on stage with Speed Control at the Burnaby Blues + Roots festival.
Rawk Camp is open for registration and is available for participants 8-11yrs and 12-24yrs. Camps begin on Tuesday, August 4 at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts.
Straight out of Canada’s Yukon comes the power trio Speed Control with super tight, riff heavy, harmony rock. Steeped in a jazz and classical background, they have turned to their true passion – rock n’ roll.
With their song "Tent City," Speed Control were finalists for Best New Group in CBC Radio’s inaugural Searchlight competition. In 2018, the group performed 250 shows across Canada and the US.
Along with playing festivals, theatres and clubs, the band also has a passion for music education. Speed Control performed concerts for 200,000 students in 400 schools. They also wrote and recorded 67 rock anthems with students.
Speed Control's signature rock camp is in high demand - attracting kids from 8 to 85 of all skill levels. The group also delivers workshops and performance-coaching to young bands.
Speed Control is sponsored by Yamaha Canada Music.
